"Better late, than never" is a saying we know all too well in Europe, when it comes to gaming (with few exceptions), one that perfectly fits Microsoft's latest communique. After having dropped the price of the Xbox 360 console in North America, refusing to announce earlier the same maneuver for Europe, today we find ourselves with a similar price-cut confirmed for the old continent as well.
Therefore, starting from August 24, the new prices recommended by Microsoft will be £249 / €349 for a Premium Xbox 360 with 20 GB HDD (£30 cheaper), and £179 / €279 for a Core Xbox 360 (£20 cheaper).
Also from this Friday, Microsoft will introduce the Xbox 360 Elite model in Europe, too, priced at £299 / €449. This will have the same specifications as the ones known over the ocean, namely a 120 GB HDD, HDMI port (high-definition multimedia interface) and a black casing.
And just like that, the most puny Xbox 360 model will reach a price sensibly comparable to that of a Wii. So next up it's Nintendo's turn to lower the bar. Or that's what we're hoping, anyway!
