There's no doubt about the fact that French don't love Microsoft. And even if they do love gaming, they don't like the Xbox 360. According to Jeux France, which quotes French newspaper Les Echos, Nintendo is by far the leader in the next-gen console war, with more than 1.1 million units sold in its first year of availability. By comparison, since November 2005, only 500,000 French consumers have snapped up only 500,000 Xbox 360, which is disastrous -to say the least- for Microsoft's gaming department in Paris.
That the Japanese have taken over the Gaellic territory is no surprise either, considering Sony's performance in the second most populous country in Western Europe. Despite the catastrophic debut of the PlayStation 3 and notwithstanding its pricing-problems, Sony succeeded in selling about 270,000 units since March, tightening its grip over the French-speaking gaming market.
From these numbers we can clearly see that the Redmond giant is in great need for a system seller, other than Halo 3, which didn't seem to convince clients on the Old Continent. Even in Japan, which is the traditional stronghold of Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft did better, selling more than 510,000 consoles.
