Finally, we get to know some significant stuff about the changes made in Gears of War 2. The first game was one of the best ever in the world of gaming, so you should be more than a bit curious as to how can one improve near-perfection.
If you became attached to some of the characters in the first game, many of them are present in the sequel, as well, but not always directly involved in the action of the game. Still, it’s not all that important that you’ll see Maria Santiago again, what you want to hear about is the gameplay.
First of all, the key word is “larger scale” and it would seem that the battles you will wage will be significantly grander. Still, you’ll need to master the same cover & shoot scheme. Bosses will also be even more boss-like and lead game designer Cliff Bleszinski happily announces that ”we have creatures that make the Brumak look like a baby panda bear.” Yummy. Gears of War 2 will come with a fresh batch of war machines, with one of the most impressive being the COG Centaur Tank, a delicious combination of tank and monster truck. Yummy once more.
Some of you may have been a little bothered by the linear nature of the first game. The second one will change that, featuring levels of a broader expanse, where you’ll have different paths at your disposal, each with their advantages and disadvantages. And, an interesting idea: you won’t have to go through sections where the game loads in the background, but you’ll go through a series of much more interesting interactive cutscenes.
And to think we must wait until November.
