Today marks the beginning of the open beta testing phase for the War Rock online modern military shooter, which has been in closed beta since late last year. Those who already got a chance to try it, know that it's a fairly modest alternative to Battlefield 2, but hopefully it will remain free even after the final realease, due in about a month. Links to the open registration page and client downloads are expected to come up shortly on the War Rock website, and until then here's a bit about the game.
"Though still in Beta test, gamers can play all three game modes (Mission, Infantry and Vehicle), pick from five distinct combat specialties and tote an armory-full of guns into the frontlines while driving the combat vehicle of their choice. Depending on the game-mode selected, players can duel up close and personal in war-torn streets or take their battles to land, sea and sky. Combatant vehicles range from motorcycles and Humvees, to gunboats and Blackhawk attack-choppers." We'll keep you posted once the open beta kicks in. In the meantime, you can check out the War Rock forums for the latest announcements, and join the community there. More specifically, you should follow this "Open Beta announcements" topic for the latest updates.
