Whoever doubted that Epic's last installment in the Unreal franchise is on par with the likes of DOOM or Quake should take a look at the latest sales figures.
A while ago, some mischievous minds at NPD were reporting that two of the most craved FPS titles last year, Crysis and Unreal Tournament III were registering disappointing sales.
It was later proved that Crysis sold more than 1 million copies, and that the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament III became so popular that an entire community of modders adhered to it.
In the eve of the game's launch in Europe, Midway, the publisher of Epic's shooter, has confirmed for videogamer.com that more than 1.2 million copies have been sold on both platforms, the PC and the PS3.
"The separated format releases have worked well, effectively giving each sku its own space," said Martin Spiess, European Managing Director of Midway Games. "Epic has delivered a game of impeccable quality and superb playability, and sales figures clearly show the timing was also spot on."
With the launch of PS3-version of UT3 looming, there's a big chance that the sales will improve. What we still don't know yet is whether the much-rumored Xbox 360 version is in development or not.
