Although there isn’t an estimated release date for this game, the producer Namco Bandai said that this title will be one of the games that will be launched along with the PlayStation 3. The game brings together team manager Masaya Kobayashi who is responsible for Ridge Racer on the PSP and developer Hideo Teramoto responsible for Ridge Racer 6 on Xbox 360. With these two working on these two titles will there be any doubt that this new one will be nothing less than a hit?
As far as things are going the game will have available all the game modes that we got used to in the previous versions. So far we’ll have an Online Play mode in which up to 14 players will be able to compete, this mode featuring two secondary game types: Team Battles and Relay Races. There will also be a Global Time Attack, where players will compete for the best time on a race track, the split screen being available also for amusement with friends. A single player mode standard mode will be implemented where a player can run normal races on circuit and finally a special feature in the form of UFLA Special Event where we will be able to play downloaded add-ons, in the form of event missions.
The meat of the game is the Ridge Racer Grand Prix, set in the fictional Ridge State where the players starts from scratch and as he wins races he will accumulate fame, money for car parts and upgrades and new cars which he can customize as he wishes.
As the producers state, the objective of the game is to reunite the players in an online environment, and its main goal is the online segment of gaming. I hope that this thing doesn’t bring the start of an era of online gaming in the console world. It wouldn’t be healthy.
