It's time for something different, and that something is this year's Mod of the Year awards, hosted by Mod DB website. It all started with a list of 4,000 mods for all sorts of games - including all the unreleased modifications - which currently have been narrowed down to the top 100, waiting for pending votes. In case you're seeking out appealing samples, or just happens that you morally support this kind of activity, it's time to lend a helping vote in everybody's quest of finding the best mod of 2006. It appears that the ultimate decision is yours.
Obviously, I'm not going to list all of the names here, instead I'll note the fact that the Top is not discriminative in nature, ranging from Quake 2 to Battlefield 2142. If you want to skim over the entire list of names - and I know you do - head onto the official website.
