So, Uwe Boll is making another movie and another game, after his own movie. Or maybe his own movie is inspired by his own game. Anyway, both will be called Tunnel Rats or something like that, and, hopefully, they won’t make too much of a mockery out of the true Tunnel Rats. Which were quite real, a special type of soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war.
You’ll (hopefully) read this and then compare the history facts with the game trailer. And you’ll probably wring your hands. The Viet Cong used to have a whole network of tunnels and these Tunnel Rats were sent in to kill the enemies entrenched there and to plant explosives to collapse them (the tunnels, not the enemies). And they didn’t even go in there with an arsenal of weapons. Just a semiautomatic pistol and a flashlight. And the tunnels had all sorts of booby traps and snakes, scorpions, bats and whatnot. If that’s not untapped game potential, I don’t know what is.
That’s what Uwe Boll probably told himself before starting work on this game and movie. And, I’m sorry to say this – sorry for the Tunnel Rats, that is – but the game seems more than mediocre and the trailer’s attempt to give it an epic feel is more than lame. As expected from this You Know Who of movie-game industry.
