Now, now, don’t get excited. Let us savor this bit of gaming news slowly and cynically. At least, we always tend to talk about most news this way. So we’re dealing with the next installment of the Castlevania series. Deep in the bowels of hell, they call it “Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia”. We call it the same. Coincidence? Not likely.
When a gamer doesn’t know much about a title which is under production and which interests him, what does he/she/it do? Well, he/she/it hunts for the tiniest scrap of rumor, news, hearsay and stuff like that which the dev or the publy (improbable abbreviation) loses sight of. Which would explain why we considered this particular information newsworthy. So:
According to GameSpot, Konami registered “Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia” last month in the US. Birocratically speaking, it’s also been placed in a category called “Goods and Services: Entertainment services, namely, providing online video games”. (Spotted that “online” part?)
More recently, one can find a rating for the game on the Entertainment Software Rating Board’s site. It’s T for Teen. The unspeakable reason for this? The game has “blood and fantasy violence”. Ouch.
Warrior: “Watch out, Demon of the Abyss, or I might get fantasy-violent on your ass!”
Demon (weeping in fear and shame): “No, anyffin’ bu’that, gov’nor!!! Anyffin’ bu’that!...”
Anyway, this officious site also specifies the DS as the platform for the game. If they’re right, we may finally leave aside Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and start a whole new life. By playing a third Castlevania.
