We all have played games which seemed (to us) almost perfect, especially if we got really good at them ;) But when it comes to those who review games more or less for a living, now these guys aren’t usually that easy to mellow. So it’s not often that one finds a game like Soulcalibur (the original), which managed to look perfect for many game critics, not to mention the great Gamer Swarm.[more]
Soulcalibur IV will be knocking on our doors this summer and it will probably be a great, great game. But, as with many other sequel series on any platform, the original game always seems the best, or at least, remains etched in one’s gaming bio-processor as an unforgettable experience. Such is the case with the very first Soulcalibur, the one which graced the Dreamcast of days long gone by.
Anyway, if one were to believe the guys from GameSpot (and we kinda tend to), Namco Bandai proudly announced that Soulcalibur has been revived by means of some unspeakable, unholy rite (quite a mana-hog too). And it will come to Xbox Live Arcade this very summer. The owners of this particular console model have our imperial permission to be happy about it.
In a related story, the game will have high-definition graphics, but not the extended online multiplayer featured in Soulcalibur IV, at least not yet. Fearing a possible uprising of gamers with burning controllers in their tiny hands, Namco Bandai sweetened the deal by saying that you can still "challenge a friend in local-play Versus mode." Well, at least that super-high multiplayer technology works. And, of course, we’ll get the usual battle options, like Arcade, Training, and Survival.
Even so, fans of the Soulcalibur series will have a busy, busy summer. (You’ll know them by their abnormally un-tanned skins.)
