Nintendo's concoction of characters has reached the critical mass of 1 million players in less than 2 weeks, according to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu.
Pokemons, Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Zelda and Samus, all crammed together under the plastic box of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, have convinced Japanese gamers to spend their money faster than ever, boosting Nintendo's profits and shares even more.
According to gaming magzine Famitsu, the title sold more than 1 million copies since its launch two weeks ago, and is on track to surpass the 2 million-copies-sold landmark by March 9, when it launches in other territories than Japan.
By comparison, Nintendo's other smashing hits Wii Fit and Wii Sports took seven weeks, eleven weeks respectively, to reach the hands of 1 million console owners. This makes Super Smash Bros. Brawl the fastest million-seller on the Wii platform.
Last month, Nintendo reported record profits for the first nine months of fiscal year 2007-2008 (which ends in March). The group- which is now the second most important company in Japan, outpacing home ground rival Sony and trailing only Toyota- declared a net profit of 258.93 billion yen ($2.43 billion), up 96.3 percent from the 131.92 billion yen won for the same period in FY 2006-2007. The gaming giant also boasted with having sold more than 20 million Wii consoles worldwide by December 31, 2007.
