There was a rumor about a new instrument for Guitar Hero World Tour and it appears it, the rumor, was quite right, only it’s not an actual instrument, but more of a PC-like thing. As a matter of fact, it’s a PC, maybe even yours. With it, you’ll be able to import MIDI tracks into your PS3 or Xbox 360, depending on the Guitar Hero version you have.
Here are some details, straight from Shacknews and Brian Bright, Neversoft project director: “We have full, basically, computer editing control, at least on the PS3, through the music studio. “ Got that “at least on the PS3” part? It would seem that this MIDI sequencer thing will be limited to drum tracks on the Xbox 360. Why? Some sort of “hardware issues”. Harumph. There’s no such problem with the rival console: the sequencer works with rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, keyboards and drum tracks on the PS3.
Anyhoo, this MIDI track sequencer affair looks like quite a smashing idea: "If you really want to compose on your PC, obviously you're going to use the samples in-game, but if you really want to compose on PC or turn your band's MIDI...into a GH Tunes song, you can do that. You can press play on the computer, and if you have it connected through MIDI, you can record into the music studio... If you're a musician or you do any sequencing, it really just makes the pathway to getting your songs in the game that much easier--once you get it down. We just really want to give people enough tools to be able to make good music."
If you want to know exactly how all this works, expect an FAQ on the Guitar Hero site, as promised by Mr. Bright.
