Rick White, Red Faction: Guerilla’s senior producer, unveiled a bunch of new interesting stuff about his game-baby. From what he tells the people over at gameplayer, this will be a lot more interesting and innovative than the first Red Faction. Or even other grand shooter titles coming up in the near future.
First of all, Mr. White says that the sci-fi atmosphere in the game was carefully calibrated so as to make it very authentic – there won’t be some far-fetched, exotic stuff, but a sort of more believable and likely to happen sci-fi. (“Similar to how comfortable and believable the Marines and their technology were in Aliens.”) The main character will also be a sort of “normal” guy, not some super-talented killing machine or super-hero.
Also, there will be no aliens in the game, so don’t expect any Ray Bradbury influences – even if there is some sort of unsolved mystery in the background. (“No aliens in RFG. The EDF and Guerrillas are on the planet, but there are signs that they aren’t the only people there…”)
The multiplayer will be not very different from what is to be seen in other 3rd person shooters – except the Siege mode, where “you are trying to break through a fortified area to destroy strategic structures”.
Well, there you go. Red Faction: Guerilla does show a lot of promise. Will it be able to deliver?
