If you’ve been into gaming for a longer time than most, you might remember the Red Faction promise. “You’ll be able to destroy EVERYTHING!” the game boasted. But the promise wasn’t fulfilled completely and, to be fair about it, the technology wasn’t advanced enough in those days. But the third installment of the Red Faction series seems to have finally got it right.
Volition, the creators of the game, showed some things at the THQ Gamer’s Day which left gaming community in a state close to awe. For example, buildings will collapse only after you ruin their structural integrity in a manner approved by that severe judge going by the name of THE LAWS OF PHYSICS. If they’re left with an insufficient number of walls, they’ll collapse like a pile of cards. Architecturally inclined gamers reading this must be already grinning widely. The possibilities!
As for the vehicles, they are also highly destroyable and interact with the highly destroyable environment in a most satisfactory way. You can bring a structure down simply by driving a tank through it. If you played Battlefield: Bad Company, you should know that the level of environment interaction is even better than what you experienced there.
And Red Faction 3: Guerilla may also score highly on issues such as storyline and epic atmosphere. The action takes place on Mars, at a time when human colonists there have decided to shed aside the yoke of Earth-originated tyranny. Which gives your multiple-gun empowered character the opportunity to test this new environmental damage system in a place in need of lots and lots of destruction. But you'll have to wait for 2009. Yes, we know it’s hard but you gotta be a brave little gamer and face the harshness of release dates with strength and honor.
