Game News - Project Origin: a new day, a new trailer

Lil' Alma is certainly not as innocent as she looks when she "evaporates" the flesh out of Delta Force soldiers' skeletons, so we'll have to contain her if we care about our own flesh.

The minions from IGN UK have managed to obtain (through unknown psychological torture techniques) exclusive info, some new screenshots and a new trailer from John Mulkey, Project Origin's Lead Designer and the Jack of all trades when it comes to answering press questions at Monolith.

From the intel gathered by IGN we now know that we'll finally be able to mount those cool Powered Armor machines and that the events in the semi-sequel start 30 minutes before the explosion that leveled the unfortunate town Auburn (actually, we knew that already...next!). Obviously, the main motivation (but also the main threat) in the game is the freshly unleashed Alma, whose thirst for revenge, after a forced vacation inside an underground sphere, is not to be trifled with.

The guys at Monolith have apparently changed tactics, shifting from the usual close-quarter combat featured in F.E.A.R. to more open-world environments, so that repetitiveness stays home: "We will continue to present a nice blend. Too much of any one thing, even a good thing, starts to wear thin if there is nothing to change things up. So it is not so much that it will be more action or more horror, it will be that the nature of both of those elements are ramped up in intensity."

The interactivity with the environment has also been upgraded (yeah, that environment with more stuff and better visuals), but it's good that for regular duck'n'cover activities you'll only need a single button/a single keyboard punch... The AI has been stuffed with a lot more... erm, intelligence  and the enemies' looks has now been overhauled, to eliminate the dull sequences where you'd have to battle the same cloned soldiers over and over again... Modifications were also operated for the melee combat system, but essentially the latter will remain the same as in previous F.E.A.R. titles (Extraction Point or Perseus Mandate), just slightly more fluid.

It's worth mentioning that the monolithic team behind No One Lives Forever has integrated into Project Origin some game assets that will be seen shortly in Condemned 2: Bloodshot. The reason? "Making game assets can be very time consuming".
