After his abrupt and surprising departure from Sony Worldwide Studios, Phil Harrison didn't take a long, peaceful vacation, as most people expected, but quickly switched sides, this time being named President and General Director at French publisher Infogrames.
Phil Harrison had a prodigious career at Sony so his decision to resign on February 29 came like a thunder for many people in the industry. However, it was not the boredom after 15 years of PlayStation launches that determined the UK-native to resign, but a more challenging position at Infogrames, the parent-company of Atari.
Yesterday the French publisher and developer announced that the former Sony official is to take the position of President and Delegated General Director. He will also assume a role inside the board of directors.
At Infogrames Harrison will team up with recently appointed CEO David Gardner, in order to "position Atari among the leading companies in the online gaming world". The British official will supervise Infogrames' studios and the development of new games and he will also be responsible for increasing the number of online and packaged games in the company's portfolio. Attracting talented people to achieve these goals is one of Harrison's other attributions.
During his "reign" at Sony Worldwide Studios, Harrison supervised the creation of more than 10 original software franchises, which have generated combined revenues in excess of $100, he oversaw the launch of almost every PlayStation Platform out there and he traveled from Japan to Europe and the US to guide the work of more than 2,500 people hired at 16 Sony studios.
