Everybody was talking about Xbox 360’s newest problematic error this week. Now it’s PS3’s turn to come under this type of unfavorable scrutiny. Forums have recently become abuzz with people talking about the mysterious Error 80010514. Ta-da-da-daaaahm…
It’s not exactly clear when this error-thing happens to a PS3. Gamerevolver tells us it may occur after a year of use, or as you start your console for the first time. But, more often than not, it will happen not long after you’ve installed a new game. We asked the error what it had to say about it, and it said, very succinctly: “An error occurred during the start operation. 80010514”. That’s the fateful message you’ll see if you’re one of those gamers cursed by destiny and the gods. The “cursed” part might actually be pleasant, from an epic point of view, but the implications of the error are not. We’re talking about serious problems with the internal hard drive here and even if games work for a while, they’ll still show you the error soon enough.
What can you do to escape this dire fate? You can reduce the possibility of this type of errors occurring by following some classical maintenance and safety procedures. First, you need to make sure that your net connection is stable (if it’s a wireless, make sure it’s at 80% at the very least). Second, we know it sounds silly, but dust your console often. You may have noticed that it attracts quite a lot of it, so you need to take steps, or you may face overheating or shorts. And third, always read the instructions when you’re installing firmware or software, just to be on the safe side.
With all these console errors cropping up as of late, you might have become a bit jittery. You shouldn’t worry, they are quite rare, and even when they do happen, they can still be fixed. So play on, son.
