Funcom's bloody MMO Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures is finally getting its official site, available at ageofconan.com with a lot of screenshots, links and news. Plus the forum, of course.
Fans of the upcoming game (that wants to dethrone World of Warcraft from gamers' preferences) will also get their fansite kit, while new visitors will have the chance of signing up for the beta version of the game, arriving in late March 2008.
"As an online gaming company we are always focused on improving our online presence, and the launch of the new Age of Conan website is a move we wanted to do prior to launch,” said Morten Larssen, VP of Sales & Marketing in Funcom. “With the new website we have tried to capture the very essence of what the Conan brand is all about, and we hope both fans and newcomers will enjoy it."
Eidos, the publisher for AoC: Hyborian Adventures has also released a new trailer, from this year's CES, featuring DreamWorld engine's technical prowess, but...the link is not working, at least from where we're standing... The video was supposed to show off the amazing DX10 environments that the game's engine can render, since DreamWorld has undergone some pretty impressive overhauls (including more advanced shader technology, improved parallax mapping, better lighting, sharper textures, more details in every scene and longer view distances).
Eidos and Funcom also tout AoC's "Real Combat" system as one of the revolutionary combat features to be included in an MMO, with the player being always in control of the character's weapon strikes in real time. This multi-point melee and ranged combat system is purportedly easy-to-learn and is one of the prime attractions of the title. Allegedly, the "Real Combat" system will take the ritualized combat experience previously found in online RPGs in a new direction.
An Xbox 360 version is also expected for March 25 this year.
We'll update our video section as soon as that pesky link becomes functional...
