Signaling the nearing completion of their new Total War game, Creative Assembly and SEGA have released a total demo for Medieval II: Total War today, totalling nearly 500 MB. This version contains a tutorial based on the Battle of Hastings, along with two scenario maps: the Battle of Pavia and the Battle of Agincourt. It seems that the demo originally appeared on a PC Gamer magazine cover disk, so we're not entirely sure just how "official" this online release is. Not that we care, anyway.
In case you're wondering what all those graphical advancements are going to mean in terms of computing power, below you can find the system requirements accompanying this demo:
- Celeron 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 (1500 MHz) or equivalent AMD processor. The processor must support SSE2
- 512 MB RAM
- 8x Speed CD-ROM drive (1200 KB/sec sustained transfer rate) and latest drivers
- 700 MB of uncompressed free hard disk space
- 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 16-bit sound card and latest drivers
- 100% Windows 2000/XP compatible mouse, keyboard and latest drivers
- DirectX 9.0c
- 128 MB Hardware Accelerated video card with Shader 1 support and the latest drivers. Must be 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible. Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4400 or ATI Radeon 9800 are the recommended minimum hardware.
- Monitor must be able to display 1024x768 resolution or above. The single troubling issue we highlighted above is the requirement for the processor to support SSE2. Which, according to Wikipedia, means that the following CPUs do NOT meet the minimum requirements:
- AMD Athlon / XP / MP
- AMD Duron
- AMD Sempron (Socket A versions)
- Intel Pentium III / Xeon
- Intel Pentium II / Xeon
- Intel Celeron (Slot 1, Socket 370) Oh-oh... My rusty piece of computational junk just got pwnd!
