A discussion on the GameReplays.org forums brings word that the PC version of LotR: The Battle for Middle-earth II is to receive a (first) expansion. An EA developer quickly confirmed the news to be true, saying that the expansion's official title will be The Rise of the Witch-king, and promising to return with more details later this week. The story was sparked by EA's presentation of the Xbox 360 version of BfME 2 at Comic-Con, which was followed by the announcement of the new expansion for the PC version.
"Then Amir showed off a video of their BFME2 on Xbox 360. Following teh video he started to talk about a new Expansion for the PC version. It was called BFME2 The Life of the Witckh King. The story is bascially about what happens when to the WK beforethe period of the War of the ring. It shows the WK in a new armor with new buildsings and new units. There were also new powers like summoning a ice wolf that walks on 2 legs. IT was neat but nothing really special. The graphics were bascially the same." Sloppy spelling and the misreported title aside (it's "The Rise of the Witch-king", not "The Life"), it seems that at least one new faction - Angmar - is being introduced in the expansion... although the topic quickly degenerates into a "what if Hobbits" discussion soon afterwards. Also, a few pages down the road, the same topic reveals this lenghty post with a description of EA's presentation, with a sample battle. Additional comments included:
- Longer Average game length
- Improvements to both create a hero and War of the Rings mode
- Release date of Fall So there you have it. LotR: The Rise of the Witch-king expansion for BfME 2, coming this Fall on the PC, with at least one new faction. Details to follow... whenever.
