Probably inspired by Rome Total War JoWood Productions, the masterminds behind the outstanding Gothic series, are taking a new path: from RPG to RTS.
The German publisher recently announced that it will plunge into the real-time strategy universe, with a new game called Fate of Hellas. The events will take place during Alexander the Great's ruling, and apparently the player's role is to do whatever he/she can to stop the Macedonian king from taking over Greek territories.
"In ancient Greece, it was not only philosophy and science which rose to a new level. With the rise and victories of Alexander the Great, a new chapter of war was opened. In "Fate of Hellas" it`s the task of the player to unite the greek tribes and cities in order to face the opponents waiting across the border of Hellas."
The plot is set 2500 ago, even before Rome's rising, and puts you into the shoes of an army commander ready to stand against the warrior neighbors of ancient Greece. You'll be able to equip your men with weapons collected from your defeated enemies, you'll be able to conquer every major city of Greece (provided that you have enough men to sustain a siege) and you'll also be able to organize your army in three different attack formations.
The game includes 60 different characters, plus historically-accurate buildings and vehicles.
JoWood's RTS is scheduled for a PC release in March 2008 in Austria and the UK. The first screenshots from the game can be viewed here.
