Alongside names like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, the gaming arena could place another one: Apple. Incredible as it may sound, there are rumors that anticipate certain waves yet to be made in the video game industry, and the situation is rather convincing, if we find ourselves staring at the point of origin: the moment registered a few months ago, when iPod was hosting a handful of games, perhaps the very first step towards a much ample involvement.
According to what the analysts have to say - actually analyst Jesse Tortora in our case - another aspect that fuels the current opinions is the recent group of developers hired to work on both software and hardware. This should be the first in a long row of delicate moments for the company, because proven hardware experience is not entitled to a faithful replica in video game industry.
Prudential analyst Jesse Tortora declared:
We think the video game market represents a distinct possibility for Apple, especially considering that it recently announced the availability of video games for its iPod through its iTunes store. The game console device could be morphed out of some combination of the MacMini and iTV, while the handheld player could be developed as an enhancement to a future version of the widescreen iPod.
The video game console market is notorious for subsidizing hardware to sell profitable games. Apple would then have to either rely on the sales of its games and downloadable movies to make enough profit to cover losses on hardware or figure out a strategy to make profits on hardware itself. There are no technical limitations to this capability, and Microsoft is already aggressively wooing the movie studios. This could adversely impact Apple's iTunes Movie download business longer-term, along with its iTV and video iPod sales."
Things are swirling down the pipe of information, and pieces of possible scenarios keep bombarding us. After all, it may not be such a long shot for Apple, given the fact that it could combine the existing home brew technology, in order to create a home or portable video game console. Or maybe both, for that matter.
