Austrian publisher JoWood Productions and German developer Piranhia Bytes have ended their spat with a handshake and are now moving on like like two ex-lovers.
A short joint press release announces that the two companies have accommodated the differences which have plagued their relationship since the launch of Gothic 3 and, furthermore, remain open for future collaborations.
But that's not what matters here. No, it's the Gothic 4 official announcement that we've been craving for since Myrtana was born! Sure, we've all had our share of rumors about the next installment in the Gothic series, but until now nothing rock-solid has surfaced. So, yes, we're going to repeat this, just in case you peed in your pants (like we did...) or in case you think your eyeballs no longer function properly: Gothic 4 is coming, and is currently in development at Spellbound Entertainment!
According to previous rumors (which are now no longer rumors) the open-world, free-roaming RPG is heading to next-gen consoles too, making Gothic 4 the first title in the franchise to leap outside the previously exclusive PC environment.
From the press statement: “We are happy that we put aside our differences with the company Pluto 13. After a long and successful period of cooperation, it w as of great concern to find the best possible solution for both parties! We are proud to continue with the marketing of products of the Gothic-series and will fulfil the high-quality expectations of its loyal fans”, explains Dr. Albert Seidl, CEO JoWooD Productions.
“Our differences in the past are history. By putting them aside, Piranha Bytes as well as JoWooD get back to accomplish constructive-minded work full of vim and vigor. For the development studio Piranha Bytes that implies: the development of entertaining and high-class Role-Playing Games”, as Mr. Michael Rüve, managing director Pluto 13, points out.
You're wondering what's left for Piranhia Bytes then, huh? Well, they're apparently working on what they're good at, meaning a new RPG code-named ... "RPB". The game will be published by Pyranhia's new publisher, Deep Silver (a division of Koch Media).
