Epic's Gears of War cash cow franchise is getting, besides the already mentioned Special Edition and the tiny toys, some... clothes. Something like "hey, look Marcus, I got a T-shirt with a Locust on it! just chainsawed it..."
It's no doubt that Gears of War is now the replacement on the Xbox 360 for the defunct Halo 3 franchise. So Microsoft, the publisher of Epic's third-person shooter, is speculating every opportunity to reap more money out of it, using for the Locusts the model already patented by Masterchief. Last year, when Halo 3 came out, you could see the greenish costume of our beloved SPARTAN on almost every Burger King, Mountain Dew or Cadillac, not to mentionLinkin Park concerts.
This year, it's Marcus' and Locusts' prime-time, with some toys being rolled out and with Gears of War-themed clothes envisioned for the debut of the game. Which will take place in November, in case you've missed the Internet hysteria that followed after CliffyB's announcement at GDC...
Anyway, Inno-Wear, a European clothing company specialized in crafting...well, clothes (inspired by video-games) announced that it has signed a contract with Epic to license the Gears of War logo for its Kashmir, linen, cotton and generally all of its textile fibers.
"We are delighted that Epic has entrusted us with Gears of Wars, reinforcing our position as the leader in gaming licensing. Our challenge is now to develop unique end-of-the-year offers for our European distributors," declared Aurelien Palasse, development director at Inno-Wear.
The Gears-garments will be available in November this year, when Marcus' new adventures on the Xbox 360 commence.
