The mobile-games developer and publisher reported record-breaking profits for the last quarter of 2007, which boosted the company to the top spot in the international market.
Gameloft, with a market capitalization of more than $214 million, was already the dominant publisher in the EMEA and European markets, but with Q4 sales worth 25.8m€ ($38.5 million) and with an annual growth of 40%, the France-based company surpassed any other competitor, climbing to the highest rank, all markets considered.
"We have been out-performing our competitors and growing faster than the market for quite a while now; our recent number one position only confirms this long-running trend," said Michel Guillemot, president, Gameloft. "This market will grow at a fast pace, with 4 billion consumers gaining access to our games by 2011. We will continue to strive for excellence and remain on the successful path that pushed us to #1 in Q4."
Gameloft expects an even more impressive growth, due to the introduction of powerful and revolutionary smartphones (like the iPhone for example), due to the inception of Google's Android platform and last, but not least, due to the recently overhauled N-Gage platform from Nokia. The French company is ready to take advantage of these advancements in the mobile industry, since its games are currently supported by more than 1,200 headsets, from 80 countries and across 180 carriers.
Historically, Gameloft has been a prominent player in the mobile gaming industry. Founded in 2000 by Michel Guillemot, co-founder of Ubisoft Entertainment., the group has multiplied its revenues by ten over the last four years. In 2006, it was named the fastest growing company in Europe by BusinessWeek, and was among the top 5 in 2007. Gameloft has been profitable since 2003.
