Monolith Productions revealed in February 2006, that it was working on a sequel to its 2005 hit game named F.E.A.R. But the title of that sequel remained in uncertain due to a copyright confusion originating from Warner Bros.' purchase of the studio in August 2004. While Monolith remained in control of F.E.A.R.'s belongings, the creepy shooter's publisher, Vivendi Games, kept control of the F.E.A.R. name.
But let’s face it, the former name of the game, “F.E.A.R. 2” isn’t exactly catchy, so Warner Bros and Monolith decided to give their fans a chance to give a name to the sequel. They held a naming contest early this year so that everybody can subscribe a name or vote for their favorite. The contestants were instructed to focus their entry names on images of "frenetic action," "horror (Asian)," "apocalypse," and "gore." After the voting period the winning name could become the game’s final title.
Even though the final entries were very good some of the submitted names were inappropriate, but this doesn’t mean that they weren’t funny. Here is a list of names from the nameyourfear.com website: Wikid - "Winning isn't killing its dying”, Carnival of Graveyards, Thugmuffins Gangsta Throwdown, “grundolite”, “killdozer”, S.A.U.S.A.G.E., M.e.a.t., P.I.E. (Paranormal Investigation Experts), B.E.E.R. (Beasties! Even Ethereal Reptiles!) and so on. And the winning name was Project Origin.
Project Origin will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. It has not yet been rated by ESRB, priced, or dated.
