Besides having a new lead character, the Devil May Cry series is apparently enjoying record sales. The first three titles of the franchise were PS2 exclusives, and have still sold well. With the announcement of the fourth title, Capcom decided to go with the Xbox 360 and the PC versions as well, besides the originally planned PS3 version. The decision was criticized by purist fans used to playing as Dante while holding a Sony gamepad.
The cross - platform launch brought on record breaking sales for Capcom. High scores from most reviewers also helped the game: DMC4 has sold around 2 million copies worldwide so far and it's still going strong. This happened despite the European and US launches having taken place at the beginning of February. The release date for Japan was january 24th. The game is on track of becoming the best selling title in the franchise that debuted eight years ago.
For now only Xbox 360 and PS3 owners are able to play the game. The PC version will be available sometimes later this year, an official date has not been made public for the Windows version.
