The guys at Digital Extremes have detailed the multiplayer twists they've included in the upcoming Dark Sector game, scheduled for release this fall.
Infection is somehow similar to the multiplayer in Area 51 (the original, not the crap one launched last year...), meaning that one of the 10 players on the map becomes Hayden (the main character in Dark Sector), while the other 9 become soldiers of the Lasrian Army (the one Hayden will have to confront in the single player). He is considered the infected target, so the rest of the players have to eliminate him. The Lasrian trooper that eventually terminates Hayden becomes at his turn infected and so a new round begins. The match ends when a certain number of points has been accumulated or when the time expires. As usual, the one that pwnz more gets more bonus points... meaning that the troopers who eliminate, stun or participate at Hayden's demise get points for their contribution. Hayden in return gets bonus points for whatever trooper he sends to Davey's Locker...
Each of the confronting sides has a different arsenal: Hayden has a 9mm Tekna, his favorite Glaive and three Evolutionary Powers, plus the weapons he grabs from dead enemies. Moreover, he'll be able to master the fire, ice and electricity present in each separate map in his own advantage. The troopers will be equipped with shotguns, assault rifles, two grenades and a proximity mine. It's interesting the fact that if a trooper accidentally trips over the very proximity mine he set up and dies, he loses points for his spectacular suicidal...
Epidemic is the second multiplayer mode, and consists of a confrontation between the Lesrian army and The Agency's soldiers (The Agency being the bad guys behind Hayden's almost-lethal "modifications"). Each of the teams has a Hayden inside it, and the round ends when of them is neutralized. The game ends when the time expires or when the victory points have been accumulated by one of the rivaling teams. Both factions have the same weapons and characteristics as in the Infection mode.
Digial Extremes didn't want to provoke any scandal so it eliminated the pesky team-kills everyone hates. The game is expected this fall on the Xbox 36 and PlayStation 3, without any hope of a PC port anytime soon...
Until then, enjoy the fresh batch of screenshots we've added to our collection.
