A very-very brief mentioning of the Halo movie on the Dark Horizons entertainment news rumours website brings unsubstantiated word that Fox / Universal's game tie-in will feature Denzel Washington as none other than Master Chief. The Oscar winning actor was also hinted by the Associated Press earlier this month, as having met with filmmaker Peter Jackson in New Zealand to discuss working together.
Peter Jackson has been known to be involved in the making of the Halo movie for quite some time now (more precisely, he's acting as executive producer), and Guillermo Del Toro ("Hellboy", "Blade II") was said to be the film's director - although that rumour was shot down late last year. The script for the adaptation was penned by "28 Days" scribe Alex Garland, and according to IMDB, Halo the movie won't be out until 2008.
As usual with any Halo news, here are also some of the latest updates from the Bungie front. The Halo 3: Behind the Scenes documentary is now available in 720p with 5.1 surround sound on Xbox Live Marketplace, and last week it looks like they celebrated Bungie Day. And we weren't invited. *sigh* "Every year on July 7th - 7/7 - the world celebrates Bungie Day! Bungie suggests that you immediately abandon all responsibilities to celebrate Bungiedom. We also suggest a barbecue featuring burgers, macaroni salad and Tijuana Mamas. Don't forget to invite all of your closest friends, the webmaster and Ling Ling." UPDATE: No Denzel "Master Chief" Washington after all, it seems, as Denzel's presence in New Zealand apparently had nothing to do with any Master Chief-related casting discussions - according to Ain't It Cool News. Not to mention that "Master Chief will not be removing his helmet at any point during the film. (...) Can you see Denzel Washington signing up for a film where he won't be seen at any point?".
