Electronic Arts announced the launch of the second official patch for Crytek's highly-praised shooter Crysis, bringing the latter to version 1.2.
The patch is mainly aimed at improving the multiplayer experience, but its most important upgrade refers to a recently discovered security hole. According to a post on EA's Crysis site from two days ago, the vulnerability is related to how "player names are stored [on the server]". Because of the exploit, it "was possible to cause a number of clients on servers to crash".
Yesterday, patch 1.2 arrived crammed into 361.04 MB, but it's obvious that you don't need that amount of virtual space just for some lines of code that eliminate a pesky bug. Here's the complete list of tweaks and enhancements:
Added mod loader to main menuIncreased damage of most player-fired weapons and decreased damage of most AI-fired weaponsAdded auto team balanceAdded grenade indicator for enemy and friendly teamAdded additional audio feedback (headshot/body) on bullet impactFully implementing Crytek's internal anti-cheat-solutionAdded numbers to energy bar in PowerStruggle for quicker referenceAdded team colors to kill/death messagesTeam killed players no longer drop their weaponImproved vehicle handling under braking and boostingGreatly increased AAA damage vs. VTOL and HelicopterReduced collision damage for players hit by vehicles at lower speedsIn other news, Crytek informed us that besides the Best Technology Award received at this year's GDC, Crysis has also been given the "Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering" award from the Academy of Arts and Interactive Sciences. Here's the download link for the patch.
