Crytek's jaw-dropping first person shooter, published by EA, has apparently gone "platinum", which in terms of sales means that it sold more than 1 million copies worldwide.
The announcement was made during EA's conference call from January 31, in which the gaming behemoth detailed its earnings for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2007-2008 (ending March).
John Ricitiello, EA's CEO, said that sales during the holiday season should be categorized as "solid, but mixed". "On the positive side, we delivered on the top and bottom line guidance we provided for the quarter. Our top line revenue of $1.73 billion excluding deferral was the highest inEA’s history and represents the single biggest revenue quarter for any third party publisher in our industry."
Riccitiello added that sales in Europe exceeded expectations and that titles like FIFA, Need for Speed and The Simpsons all ranked among the top 10 best selling games on the Old Continent.
But what was really of interest EA CEO's statement that three titles published by the company- Rockband, Crysis and The Orange Box- went "platinum", which means that all three sold more than 1 million copies worldwide.
This apparently contradicts the news about the sluggish sales for Crytek's shooter in the first two weeks of availability. Anyway, we're just glad that two out of three platinum titles are for PC.
