Out of nowhere, but in no way surprising, today we get the news about the first expansion for the C&C 3: Tiberium Wars RTS sequel. It will be called Command & Conquer: Kane's Wrath (possibly due to a lack of inspiration since Yuri's Revenge), and it will be available for both versions of the original game - as in for PC, and for Xbox 360.
The announcement was made during the premiere of EA's "Command & Conquer BattleCast" web-show, which is meant to keep the fans informed about everything budging on the C&C front: news, updates, community stuff, as well as televized battles between top players.
Anyway, let's get to the point and see what's the deal with Kane's Wrath. From what GameDaily BIZ reports, the expansion will continue to follow the rise back to power of the charismatic anti-hero Kane, while also introducing a new global domination meta-game, in the spirit of the classic strategy game Risk.
For Xbox 360 fans concerned about the particular interface of the console version, GameDaily also mentions that the radial interface will finally appear in the Kane's Wrath add-on, sometime in early 2008. Other than that, we're waiting for a more detailed press release any time now, as GC is already knocking on our door.
UPDATE: The communique has arrived, and here are the essentials:
"The single player campaign will allow players to experience a new story that spans 20 years - from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod after the Second Tiberium War through the dramatic events of the Third Tiberium War and beyond. The story is told through a new set of high-definition live action video sequences starring a celebrity cast. Joe Kucan, the original actor who portrayed the character Kane in Command & Conquer games over the last decade, will reprise his role as the megalomaniacal leader of the Brotherhood of Nod. Other details of the cast have yet to be announced.
Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath also features a new strategic layer to gameplay that allows players to establish bases, build customized armies, and attack their enemies on a global scale - and then dive into the frenzied tactical combat where their skills as a commander will make the difference in battle. The game introduces six new sub-factions and a wealth of new units, structures, and powers to the armies of the Global Defense Initiative, the Brotherhood of Nod, and the enigmatic alien Scrin."
