So far, the number of great western shooters I had the pleasure of playing counts up to... oh... just about zip! But things will hopefully change once the Polish team from Techland launches their Wild West FPS, Call of Juarez... which, for us Europeans, should take place in September. In the US, however, the game's PC release was pushed back to 2007, in order to concide with its newly announced next-gen console version. And since Call of Juarez is being published by Ubisoft, this turns out to be yet another one of their recent delays, right there with Double Agent, Dark Messiah and Resident Evil 4 on the PC.
While waiting for clarification on the next-gen version's actual platform (Xbox 360 and/or PlayStation 3), we are being invited to visit the newly - and fully - launched Call of Juarez website, and also try out a new demo version of the game. You can get it from 3D Gamers, Gamer's Hell or several other download locations listed on Blue's News. Word is the 530 MB demo lets you play through two single-player missions, one as Ray and one as Billy - the game's antagonist heroes.
"In single player campaign the player will play the role of two opposing heroes, with different weaponry and fighting styles. Billy is a rebel and a brawler who was accused of murder and now tries to escape the punishing hand of law. Reverend Ray is a former gunslinger, who deserts the church and takes an oath to deliver the justice to Billy, and all the criminals he stumbles upon, by a gun bullet. During the game, player will have to make decisions in the blink of an eye to get away as Billy or to catch him as Ray. Call of Juarez is made of authentic western situations such as: trek through vast and wild North American territories, teaming up with Native Americans, brawls in saloons, gunfights and some fun in a local brothel." Oh yes, brothels... the Wild West at its finest!
