Kevin Levine's aquatic utopia proved to be the chicken with the golden eggs for Take Two, not only winning the "Game of the Year" title but also selling more than 2 million copies since its late August launch- thus skyrocketing the publisher's revenues for this important fiscal quarter.
Although Take Two has been under heavy fire for indefinitely delaying the long-expected Grand Theft Auto IV, it seems that in the end it was a wise decision from them, considering the success BioShock enjoyed these 4 months and taking into account the competition (COD4, Crysis, Assassin's Creed, Jericho, TimeShift, Mass Effect, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune...do I need to keep counting?).
Take Two's recent fiscal results don't mention which platform sold better (the PC or the Xbox 360), but it's still very impressive to see that a game which doesn't have a multiplayer component can appeal to gamers like that. Besides the plethora of prizes received at this year's SpikeTV gala on December 9 ("GotY", "Best Original Score" and "Best Xbox 360 Game"- yes, it did dethrone Halo 3!), BioShock also received the GotY from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), and from the Associated Press.
