In the recent period we're flooded with a plethora of sequels for high-profile franchises, and BioShock has just joined the deluge. As if we needed any confirmation...
This news is included in the "not if, but when" category, in which Gears of War 2, Crysis 2 and 3, Call of Duty 5 or Gothic 4 are also crammed in. So it's something like "we knew this was coming, we just didn't know when"...
It was obvious that a prominent and multi-awarded title like BioShock- whose sales, despite the fact that it has no multiplayer, have been stellar- would not remain without a sequel or at least a prequel, especially since neither Take Tko/2K Games nor Kevin Levine have explicitly denied the possibility of a continuation.
One of the two options (prequel/sequel) has finally been confirmed by Take Two CEO Ben Feder, during the latest financial report of the company, published yesterday. According to it, BioShock 2 will arrive in 2009, sometimes in the interval between August and October.
2k Marin, Take Two's new studio from Novato, California, has been designated to write the lines of code for the game. Although it's a new studio, with new employees, there are some veterans from the initial BioShock helping with the bugs the code, and Kevin Levine himself oversees the development of the project. Feder added that Levine is also in charge of a new, mysterious IP, slated for a late 2009 debut.
We don't know yet if BioShock 2 will be dual-platform (PC and Xbox 360) but the bonus for the end of this news is that Take Two is considering... another Max Payne title! More details will hopefully surface in the following months, but we'll just keep our fingers crossed for Remedy...
