Atari the big game producer and developer inked a contract yesterday with Eastern European game producer and developer CD Projekt, in order to ship their upcoming fantasy RPG, The Witcher, next spring. The game involves a young lad named Geralt, known in his village as an awesome monster slayer and sword wielding fighter and promises a fast paced action adventure with a story that unfolds based on what decisions you make.
The engine of the game is Aurora, developed by BioWare and optimized for this game by CD Projekt, and was made public in this new form at the E3 show in 2004. This is a big thumbs up for the game because the engine comes from a leading giant in the RPG industry and everything given to us this far looks great, feels great and plays great, the atmosphere of the game being dark, bleak and violent, very characteristic to Eastern Europe.
Personally I don't know if the English language has a word like "witcher" but the producers seem to love the name and they love it so much that they already have plans to ship the game and attempt to sell it on the Asian market, not only for the US and Europe, and they really expect this to be a big success. Cyril Voiron, Atari marketing director for Eastern Europe stated that the team at CD Projekt really put a lot of passion and love in creating this game (everybody says that) and they expect it to become a big hit and to revolutionize the genre (everybody wants that). Until the release date in spring next year, all we can do is wish them the best of luck and hope to play a nice, elegant and entertaining game.
